The Monowheel was the first artificial form of transport and outstripped the bicycle in development. Electric powered Monowheels were on the streets before the car and will be still on the streets long after the car is gone. Petrol powered Monowheels from 1886 on-wards were faster than Steam locomotives and even Edison got into the act with a powerful model in 1910. Propeller driven models were breaking land speed records in 1912 to 1917. They fell out of fashion from the 60s to the 90s but have come back with a vengeance in the new century and the human desire for the monowheel lives on.
