First, the pistol which became known as the Peacemaker or Frontier Six-Shooter was introduced in .45 Colt caliber in an Army contract in 1871, the date in which the final patents were granted. By 1873-1875 the Peacemaker, or as it was originally known, the Single-Action Army, began to reach the civilian market. There was no Peacemaker in 1865.
